NVidia Drivers in Mythbuntu 8.10
I've just discovered a brilliant tool.
Here's what happened. I was bored and my MythTv box didn't have any upcoming recordings for a few days so i thought it was a good time to upgrade to the latest version, MythBuntu 8.10. The update went well... except for the NVidia drivers. On reboot I kept getting a message saying that Ubuntu was running in "Low graphics mode". First thing I tried was going to "Hardware Drivers" to activate the restricted NVidia drivers. I selected the recommended version, click Activate and put in my password. It seems to go ok till I noticed that it still said "This driver is not activated". I did some research and tried re-installing jockey - no luck. I uninstall everything NVidia related in the package manager and re-installed - still no luck.
Here's where my discovery comes in, I found this forum (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=281358) which mentioned envy. I then went to the site here http://albertomilone.com/envyngfaq.html#A and installed. It worked brilliantly. I've just run it and rebooted and I have the restricted drivers loaded.
I wish I found Envy about 3 hours ago.
